Influencing Factors on Marital Satisfaction in Newlywed Couples by Using the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model

Abstract

|
Objectives: This study was to identify the factors influencing marital satisfaction in newlywed couples by means of applying the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model (APIM).
Methods: The study analyzed a total of 329 couples within five years of marriage with SPSS 20.0, AMOS 20.0, and APIM, in order to provide a basis for counseling by identifying the relationships between the variables that affect marital satisfaction and Actor-Partner effect of newlyweds.
Results: The study found that the actor-partner effects between variables. In the relationship between original family differentiation and the conflict between mother-in-law and son-in-law, neither the husband nor the wife showed the mediated effect of coping flexibility. In the relationship between the conflict between mother-in-law and son-in-law and marital satisfaction, the conflict between mother-in-law and son-in-law had a mediated effect on both husband and wife. The dual mediated effects of coping flexibility and the conflict between mother-in-law and son-in-law in relation to the original family differentiation and marriage satisfaction were significant for both husband and wife.
Conclusions: This study will help to create a better understanding of how couples are influenced by their original family to improve the marital satisfaction of newlywed couples and how they affect their marital relationships.
